    Wireless problem


    Hi, I have downloaded Matriux around an hour and a half and two hours ago. I have been searching for a way (for around half an hour) using the Matriux Krypton options included within Linux. In any case, I then proceeded to find answers online (most being either obsolete - 4 years+ OR they I did not understand what the heck they were talking about OR they were not pertinent to what I am trying to achieve).

    I have two problems. The first was when I booted it up (I have windows 7, starter edition). So I did a Live run of the Matriux dvd I burned, but it kept quickly pouring out lines (many reporting mistakes). So I do not understand why I am getting mistakes, even though Matriux seemed to work fine (I don't have a camera nor a webcam unfortunately, so it'd be very hard for me to tape all of that). This problem is one I consider a minor problem, and am not concerned about this for now (but I wanted to lay it out just in case I have a corrupt distro).

    The second one, which is a very important issue I have been having, is about the wireless connnection. I cannot connect to internet. How can I do that without using any windows components NOR importing anything from outside? In the future, I want to have a Linux only laptop (while my desktop being Windows XP), so having to import anything in any way is not a solution for me.

    I do not mind trying another distro (or distros) that would enable me to easily install a wireless connection. For now, my main concern having a wireless connection.

    I have a D-Link DWA-160 as a wireless usb.
    I have a 1.3mzh processor.
    I have 512 mb of ram.

    Howdy there.

    First... When booting up, some distros give up a whole load of text. Some of it might look nasty, but it's not really an issue. Ignore it unless you're experiencing problems. If you're worried about it, post the output of the command dmesg.

    Second... Take a look at this page. Post back here with all requested info.

    I see what I am assuming two wireless adapters: wlan0 and wlan1.
    Could we also have the output of

    Both cards are in use and they both also have drivers listed as being used. That doesn't seem to be the problem.
    Can you post the output of

    ifconfig wlan0 up

    iwconfig wlan0 scan
    If it says scanning isn't supported then try again with wlan1 instead. Also, after trying the above commands, check the output of dmesg again, it's usually different after every command.

    Do you have a desktop? Are you using Gnome, KDE or what?

    As jayd512 suggested, you can ignore startup output. Use quiet option in GRUB to switch off startup output. Its not recommended though.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
