    navigating with command line help...


    hi guys

    total newb here...need some help

    i opened a terminal

    i have:

    johnatcentos1$

    i type ls then press enter
    i get

    desktop downloads music public etc etc

    but why when i type cd desktop it says no such file or directory
    or if i try cd /desktop it says the same thing

    where exactly am i? in root?
    why can i not move into other directories?

    please help

    Are you sure that it says: desktop
    and not: Desktop

    Linux is case sensitive and very unforgiving.

    Like arochester has pointed out above, 'desktop' and 'Desktop' are two different folders/files.

    Such a silly mistake...and one i will never forget it was Desktop not desktop...thanks a lot guys!!!
