Rute is a great on-line book which starts with the absolute basics and goes all the way to the advanced topics. I've just noticed that you can also buy a physical copy if that suits you better.

well, how about free? check the list of free e-books here (PDFs mostly, i think). some of them are advanced, but a couple you may find useful. particularly the one about command line, I would think.
