    Erhm, it didn't come for Mandrake 10.1, unless I'm looking in the wrong place. Should the installer for Mandrake 10.0 work?

    do you have Kopete installed if you cant find gaim, I know you can get gaim for mandrake 10, cant see why 10.1 would be different

    read this tutorial on how to install http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/topic-19957.html

    Since it's a src.rpm it will put the source files someware on the comp which you will then have to install with the ./configure, make, make install method also expalined in above link;

    hope this helps;

    I had issure right from the first step

    :

    open of <filename> failed: No such file or directory (happenns with all rpms I've tried to open)

    In this case, I typed in this:

    [josh@localhost josh]$ su
    Password:
    [root@localhost josh]# ls
    10039.0.gaim-0.82.1-2mdk.src.rpm gaim-silc-1.1.1-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm
    10270.0.mozilla-1.7.2-11mdk.src.rpm gaim-tcl-1.1.1-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm
    amsn-0_83.tar.gz kopete-0.9.2/
    config.log kopete-0.9.2.tar.gz
    Desktop/ msn/
    Firefox/ gaim-1.1.1-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm rpm
    gaim-1.1.1.x86.package tmp/
    gaim-devel-1.1.1-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm wine-20041201-mdk.i586.rpm
    [root@localhost josh]# rpm -i wine-20041201-mdk.rpm
    error: open of wine-20041201-mdk.rpm failed: No such file or directory

    what went wrong?

    Read the last two lines better. The packagename you typed is not the same as the real packagename. Try typing a few letters and then use the Tab key. If you typed enough starting characters the completion will show the complete filename. It is a bit like irc and nickname completion using tab

    Since you have Mandrake 10.1, go in control center, software, add and type in the search KOPETE

    the rpm will take care of everything for you and kopete is perfect for messenging
