    Newbie Success!

I posted earlier about getting this workstation from the now closed ECOT school. I chose Ubuntu. Watched some videos, read some articles. Made an install stick. Put in the memory stick booted it up and it works great. I even installed Chromium and Steam. So far..so good. To all those Linux people, Thank you for providing a free alternative to Windows!

Now what? Do I need anti-virus?

    thanks for sharing your success!

however, there was no need to open a new thread for that. not a biggie, just something to remember as part of forum etiquette.

There are some antivirus programs available for Linux but it's not necessary. Just don't run stupid commands as root and you'll be fine.

The built-in firewall should be enough security.

As nihili said a definite no.

There is only one reason you might need one, if you need to visit dubious websites.
