    WHY IS IT SO COMPLICATED

I have a nice RedHat 9 installation that I feel is becoming more and more tarnished every time I RPM something and it doesn't install. I can't install java runtime for netscape, I can't install netscape. I don't even know how to get SU in GUI.

    Mif,

You are going to have to calm down. I understand that things can get frustrating but being patient and working it out will get you the best result in the end.
Now, when I was running RedHat, I was having the same problem. When you install RPMs, are you using the right version? (for RedHat 9)? Where did you get JRE from? If you got it from Sun, it's fairly simple to install. I'd also advise you to install Mozilla as opposed to Netscape.

How do you mean "can't install"? Can't install can mean several things, so it's not really clear what problem you're having.
Also, as for su in the GUI... well... what GUI are you using?
