    Setting up a mail server

Can anyone point me into the right direction on setting up a mailserver?
I have never done it before so any good tutorials are welcome.

My ISP can create a MX record for my registered name and I would like to create accounts and mailboxes on my end for the entire family.

    Cheers

Essentially all you have to do is to make sure that sendmail is running, that you have an MX record, and that the domain name having the MX record is listed in your /etc/mail/local-host-names. Everything apart from that is essentially just customizing.

Didn't I give you step by step instructions? What I meant by the last sentence is that you won't need to do anything else unless there is some really specific feature that you have thought of and want to have.

I probably did not explain it clearly enough. The linux box will be my mail server but the family will be using Windows. For example, my brother lives on the other side of the world and he wants an email address @myhostname.

I need pop3 so he can access it. Are there any tutorials on how to do the lot from scratch?

    Cheers

Ah... I though you wanted an MTA, not a post office. Stupid me, actually.
    Anyway, check out these HOWTOs:

    http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Mail-Administrator-HOWTO.html
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/ISP-Setup-RedHat-HOWTO.html (Providing you're using RedHat. It can probably provide pointers anyway, though.)
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Qmail-VMai...WTO/index.html (Highly recommended for your application)
