Where Are RPM's Installed to?
Hello all,
New to Mandrake 9.1, all my hardware is working, finally downloaded, installed and got Gtk-Gnutells working, "2 days"...lol. My question, is there a default directory where the RPMs are inkstalled to, such as user/Bin or some such.............it's a pain in the butt to "install" something and then spend a day finding the executeable and figuring out how to run it.............
TIA
WIll

To find out where files are installed to, type "whereis program" like "whereis gtk-gnutella". You don't have to type the whole path to the binary but just the name. So instead of /some/path/to/gtk-gnutella you can type gtk-gnutella.

a good place to look for executabels is either
/bin
/sbin
/usr/bin
/usr/sbin
of course, they are allowed to be anywhere.
have fun

Yes...........using Find Files right now, will have to start pasting some app launchers on my desktop, it would be very pleasant if Linux comes up with a boring installer like MS and actually puts an icon on the desktop if so desired............

Is that a Mandrake specific command? I ususally run "find -name filenamehere.txt" on RH boxes I use.type "whereis program" like "whereis gtk-gnutella".Dan
