    Mounting the CD-rom drive?

OK, I previously had Red Hat 8.1 on my computer and when I tested the sound, it worked, but after that, I could not hear any sounds, so I thought it was just the theme I had, so I went to a web site I knew had lot's of noise, and it didn't work, so I decided to switch to Mandrake 9.1, and I was wondering if I had to mount the cd drive, because I had to do it in Red Hat, and I don't know how! Please help if you can.

So, after all that, is the sound now working or not?
