    Log in woes...

    I've just installed mandrake 9.1.

When I log out and log in again Only Mike is in the list!!! Where is Root gone?

When I log in as Mike I cannot copy any files so I need to be root.

How do I get root to appear in the login list?

    Thanks

[Edit] Nevermind... Sorted it finally I'm now back on the net with mandrake 9.1 linux Let's hope It stays connected longer than 20minutes like it did with v9.0 Once it disconnected it wouldn't reconnect for some reason. Hence a MASSIVE download today of Man 9.1 all 3 cd's Seems worth it though.

Now to learn terminal commands... I gather I'll need it quite a lot

You shouldn't really want to log on as root. Instead, reserve the use of root for performing special tasks that require elevated priviledges by switching user to root (su --). This will save you from potentially doing damage to your system by your own actions. It will also leave you better protected from viruses (as explained by J in another thread ).
