    fpt server problem

    im trying to enable my ftp server and when i try to connect to localhost i get:

    Connected to localhost.
    421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection.

    the same thing happens when i try to connect from another machine on the same network.
    what the hay? how can i fix this?

    #1 - is the FTP program running on the server??

    #2 - is a firewall on the server blocking port 21?

    I don't thiunk that's the problem, since he gets the 421 response from the server. The problem is likely to be in the config files as I see it. Check the logs for any messages.
