Hey i'm trying to install java. I downloaded it from here http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download.html

I did the Linux RPM in self-extracting file and downloaded it under JRE. It came as .bin and i did ./JavaLinux.bin (thats name i saved it under) in command line and it gave me licence agreement and i said yes and that worked fine. now i cant find the rpm file to install java itself. anything wrong ? :o

im not sure how sun does their bin's but try saving it as the original name they gave you - then see if it extracts ok

Doesn't that bin file install it and everything? Test if it's installed by running 'java'.

sun has two different ones - you can download a rpm that comes compressed inside a bin, that way you are forced to read their licensing when you open it

or a bin that just installs it - but if you use the rpm obviously you can update/delete it easier
