    i have grub boot loader how can i change root password .

    you could login as a normal user, and try running the ptrace (www.packetstormsecurity.nl) exploit, depending on the age of the machine. run "passwd root", job done.

    Then remember to upgrade your kernel

    Configure grub to boot into single user mode which will allow you to change root password.

    When grub boot loader comes up, edit your kernel line and put the word "single" at the end of the line.

    You press c, then hilite your kernel line and press e. You will be in an editor and you will see the kernel line. Add single at the ent of it.
