I was never given a chance to assign my root pw in Ubuntu

Hello, I just installed Ubuntu, I am liking it quite a bit (huge fan of Debian), but for some reason it never gave me a chance to assign a root password to it. Either that or I just wasn't paying attention. I do recall assigning a user and its password to it but never the almighty root. I'm really in hell without it, without apt-get I go through withdrawls and I end up shaking in a corner at 2 am but that's a different story all together... Is there anyway to change the root pw (or create one)? I don't want to have to reinstall, thanks.

    ah-ha.

For some stupid reason, Ubuntu uses your user pw, either that or I screwed something up. Nevertheless it works, thanks for your time.

    Hi.
If you want to create a root account, just type:
    Code:
    sudo passwd root

    Thanks.

One more thing: the apt sources suck! Anyway I could go about fixing this? I couldn't even get Grip. Grip! I was also beckoned into trying Ubuntu because the latest version has KDE 3.4, yet there aren't any apt sources for KDE, odd. I do perfer Gnome but my friend has been ranting all week about how he loves KDE 3.4, meh.
