    im a noob


    yes im a noob...ive tried many distros of linux
    suse 9.2
    red hat 9
    mandrake 10.1
    fedora core 4
    and i currently use fedora core 3 i guess i just like it the best.tho i found out no linux is easy what so ever.

    by the way why wont my dvd drive read a dvd with mp3s on it in linux?

    i think i read somewhere that fedora comes with no native mp3 support. i was able to get mp3s to play with real player

    Depends whether its DVD issue or mp3 issue. If the second, you should install mp3 codecs I guess.

    Try this:

    -open up a terminal and become root
    -type "yum install xmms-mp3" (that should install mp3codecs for xmms player)

    I was the same as you, I tried fedora core 3, madrake 10.1, kubuntu, suse 9.2, and a few more, and ended up sticking with simply mepis 3.3
    Its actually easy to understand. very easy access to installing and updating packages. has a package installer that installs programs for you, rather that you having to mess about in the console and enter in lots of code.
    its great. give it a try

    Mee too

    Well, I have the same problem using Mandrake 10.1, I think it's a problem with the DVD drivers because I can read mp3's from burned cd's. I hope this might help you

    But mandrake let MP3-codecs come with, while fedora stips off all the MP3-support so you will manually have to innstall MP3-plugins later...

    i shall try this xmms thing.heh.
    i had trouble with getting sound to work
    this program stepmania gives me nothing but CRAP (check my post under fedora help)
    up2date freezes all the time
    every damn thing i try to install has a dependency problem
