    connect to windows network


    hey im new to linux and dunno how to get onto my network, or if i can use my network card to. im usin knoppix right now. is linux compatible with a windows network?

    You can connect to windows network through samba file server which should be included in a default installation.

    In konqueror, try to go to the location "smb:/" and try find your network there.

    If you have installed knoppix, you could also try installing 'Smb4K', which is a simple front-end to samba, made for KDE.

    ok i tried samba but that only appears to be a place to connect to a workgroup. where can i configure my wireless network card to work (and a place to put in a wep key and all that stuff )

    KDE is a window manager, the same as GNOME, XFCE etc. It's the graphical user interface for linux.

    In windows, I think this is called 'explorer'. It is the user interface which you see (and which forces you to reboot when it chrashes )

    Smb4K is a clickable, userfriendly interface for samba.
