    a question when install software

    im new to linux
    there is a question when install software
    when install "XMMS" , the process is
    " gzip -d XMMS.tar.gz
    tar xvf XMMS.tar
    cd /Xmms
    after type "make" ,appear "bash:make:command not found"
    why ?
    already install gcc

    Do you have make installed and what distro are you using?

    when type "make install" after tpye "make"
    there is also appearing "bash:make install : command not found"

    it looks like the command is need to install other sustain software

    I've never used TurboLinux, but I'm sure there is some kind of package management to install programs. The error you are getting seems like you don't have "make" installed. Maybe someone with more experience with your distro can elaborate more.

    It should be on your installation CDs, but if not, check here: and just do a search for make for your specific distro. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you...

    What you actually need is to install automake and autoconf. You need to be more specific as to which distro you are using, and we might be a little more helpful.
    Linux without a C Compiler is like eating Spaghetti with your mouth sewn shut. It just doesn't make sense.
