What are you trying to install? and what was the error message you got when you did ./configure ?

Looking around the web people have solved such problems by running redhat's up2date to update gcc and glibc as well as other files.

my gcc is 3.2.2-5,glibc is 2.3.2-29.they both updated via apt software
now,i have installed a rpm dist of version 1.2.8,but still couldn't install a source dist.
Thanx for your reply!

If you can install it succesfully via .rpm why do you want to install it as source?

i do want.the problem is when i try to configure,it just prompts so many errors and i am so puzzled.maybe something wrong with my module dependences,for i have upgrade my rpm packages via apt get.or maybe i missed some libs to be installed.

of cource.first of all,thanks for replying a so stupid guy!
assume i am installing bison-2.0.tar.gz
the last config output is:
checking how to run the C preprocessor.../lib/cpp
configure error:C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check.

it's a shame i don't know what's it means.

then the config.log is as following:
This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by GNU Bison configure 2.0, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.59. Invocation command line was

$ ./configure

Firstly can you give the output from:
Code:
su
[rootpass]
locate linux/limits.h
and also you should install g++

the path of linux/limits.h is:
/usr/src/linux-2.6.0/include/linux/limits.h
but i remember my kernel is 2.4.20,just because i upgraged the rpm?
i am sorry i havn't installed g++,but i installed a libg++,are both the same meaning?

Ok we need to link a few things together:
Code:
su
[rootpass]
ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.6.0 /usr/src/linux
and I think libg++ will be ok...if it isn't we'll find out shortly
