    how can i open tar.bz2 or a tar.gz file on a linux system

    to extract the tar files, use these :
    Code:
    For tar.bz2,
    $ tar jxvf <filename.tar.bz2>
    
    For tar.gz,
    $ tar zxvf <filename.tar.gz>
    To view the contents .. u can use file-roller in GNOME or ark in KDE.

    OR, just replace tar <z | j>xvf with tar <z | j>tvf in the above cmds ..
    WARNING!!! Don\'t try the following :
