    Small Doubt

    hi everybody,

    Iam new to LINUX and i would like to work in LINUX and i was interested to work and so i need some clarification,

    "Can anyone tell the abbrevation of LINUX and UNIX"

    Linux isn't an acronym. It follows in the traditon of Unix-like operating system naming in that it ends in n*x. It's based off of Linus Torvalds, the name of the founder. UNIX is a derivative of the acronym "UNICS" which stood for UNiplexed Information and Computing System.

    didn't Unix also derive from Multix (Multics?)?? "Un"ix as in one? and if i recall Linux was either came from "Linus' Unix" or Linus' Minix". again, that is nothing more than what i have heard/gathered.

    Then there is GNU's not Unix.
