Connecting to Copper.Net with Mandrake 10
Hi everyone, I've been trying all day to connect to Copper.net's dial up service but I haven't been able to do so. If anyone can help, i would really appreciate it.
First, it asks me to choose on which serial port the modem is on, this I'm not sure about.
The options are:
/dev/ttyS0 / COM1
/dev/ttyS1 / COM2
/dev/ttyS2 / COM3
/dev/ttyS3 / COM4
/dev/ttyS4 / COM5
/dev/ttyS5 / COM6
/dev/ttyS6 / COM7
/dev/ttyS7 / COM 8
/dev/modem
/dev/ttySL0
I'm not sure where on which serial port my modem is connected to... so i've tried all of them.
The next part asks for the connection info, this is it:
Connection Name: Copper.Net
Phone number: 8173010141
Login ID: draco@copper.net
Password: ******
Authentication: Chap
IP Parameters: Automatic
DNS:
Domain Name: copper.net
First DNS Server: 65.247.64.21
Second DNS Server: 65.247.64.22
Gateway: Automatic

If the setup has been good, then /dev/modem will be a link to the modem device - so a
ls -l /dev/modem
will show what it is considered to be
What 'script' are you following to do the dislup config?
Do you have an external modem, or might it be a dreaded winmodem?

I was using Mandrake's graphical network setup, the modem is an internal HSP Micromodem 56, which i think is a winmodem... but since this was on an old computer, i got tired of Mandrake and installed Fedora Core 2, which i don't think makes much of a difference.
