    Differences between Solaris and Linux

    Hi again friends

I've a new question: What's the difference between Linux and Solaris ? I've read Solaris is a UNIX Operating System like Linux. I got Solaris 10, but now I'm working under Fedora Core. I think to install Solaris but I have that question. I checked distrowatch and its showed me the software package and its the same that Linux. So I'm confused now. Please someone answers me. Thanks . . .

I tried OpenSolaris and didn't care for it, but you might like it. Here's a link to an 8-page review that you might find interesting. Page 3 talks about some of the problems you might run into with installation and the system environment:

I think the biggest difference is probably the kernel. Here's a kernel comparison if you want to read up on it:

I take you mean GNU software.
This seems to be the goal for opensolaris, but right now it still can't run everything.
I'm not sure about a propriatarian version, but i guess it will run less GNU software.

Pretty much the same, as OpenSolaris uses Solaris 10 source code. Yeah, most Linux apps work with Solaris, too. Here's the datasheet directly from Sun:
