    is that anybody know why we need to use Putty for?

    Why we need it? Well so that we can ssh from windows boxes, which can be usful sometimes.

    it's a convenient shell program that helps you manage your ssh keys. Personally, I prefer to use cygwin, but that's 'cos I quite like the power of the command line environment.

    Putty is also available for Unix, and is available in many Linux distros.

    Putty is a way to secure shell into a system running SSH or other encryption methods from a Windows or Unix box. Basically it is an Encrypted connection. With that in mind some countries unfortunately have a very strict control on Import/Export laws of Cryptography enabled devices. Everyone should check with their countries policy before using it to be sure they are allowed to.

    Yeah, I use puTTY from work and home (windows boxes) to connect to my server or other linux boxes. I know there are other alternatives, but this one works and is small. Basically, its the first app I install on a windows box if I plan on wanting to connect to my server.

    Obviously, if I am on a *nix box, I just use ssh to do the same thing, but without ssh, puTTY is my app!!!
