get an SFTP/SCP client like WinSCP on Windows and use it to connect to your Linux machine

Use Samba. Here is a link to samba's website. You can find documentation and many other things there. If you want to do it the simple way, then install samba, open konquerer and type smb:\\IP address of the windows computer

This should allow you to view and modify any shared folders on the windows machine.

    Samba is the ticket

Yes, I agree, Samnba is the way to go. Once configured, you can share files to and from Linux and Windows machines in a LAN environment. I use Samba servers on our corporate LAN and it is the best way to accomplish what you seek.

You set up Samba properly on your linux box (edit the file /etc/samba/smb.conf), and then you go in start/run and type
    Code:
    \\name of your linux box
... open and finally "map network drive" on your windows xp box.

Don't be afraid, google around, you'll find the answers. Quite easy.
