I would like to see if anyone has some ideas on how I can decrease my boot up time, if its possible
Using mandrake 10.1
my test pc has a k6 amd, 512mb memory, and a 20 gig hd
Any help would be appreciated

there isnt too much you can do.
1st - turn off any unneccercary (i cant spell) services (e.g. httpd / nfs / depends on what you use ur pc for)
That should help a lot.
After that, you get into a lot more hardcore pointless stuff....
You may wish to look at http://initng.thinktux.net/index.php/Main_Page which lets you start several services in paralell, and does sound very interesting...

I don't really have boot time issues, but my computer stays on that stupid Dell BIOS screen forever. It's a real pain. Anything I can do about that?

on your dell machine look in the bios setup for disable diagnostics or quiet boot, that worked not to long ago.
