General n00b question about uninstalling
I read something somewhere about needing to have the source code on hand in order to uninstall a program. The version of Sane that I have installed is supposed to have an uninstaller, but doesn't seem to. I'd like to uninstall it completely before installing the current version.
Can I just go around deleting files if I know where to find them? I found a page that says yes, but I think it's for a much older version of the program, and the locations it specifies are not where my Sane is installed.

How did you install Sane? From the source code ala ./configure; make; make install, or through your distributions package manager ala yum or apt-get or x y z. If it was through a package manager mention the distribution your using.

It's Fedora Core 4, and the version of Sane is 0.95. Any parts of it that weren't included on the DVD, I would have got through yum.
Actually, I've just noticed that my repository now has the newest version of the backends up, which it didn't before... so if I update with yum, is it still a good idea to uninstall the old version first?

you don't have to untinstall the old version before updating (as yum will automatically once the new one is installed). i think that's what you were asking..
