i have a temporary(until you log out) solution. put your dvd into the drive, go to /media, and fire up the command line. create a dvd directory with 'mkdir dvd'. type in 'mount /dev/dvd /media/dvd'(or 'mount /dev/cdrom /media/dvd').
i have suse 10 and it doesn't recognise windows because its not in /etc/mtab or /etc/fstab files, so i just do the above but put 'mount /dev/hd1 /media/windows'.
sorry i don't have the permanent solution, but at least it can tide you over until someone does.
