how to make external cd writer work on debian- in an easy way?
I posted in in the debian forum but got no ansers so perhaps someone here could help me?
I got this HP external CD writer connected to LPT1. My sarger does not see it at all. Now, I looked around and it seems that it might be possible to make it see but the procedure, at least for me, appears to be exteremly complicated. Basically it seems that I would have to make my own kernel etc.
Interestingly, RedHat and I think Slackware, have the recognition of the serial port simply built it (I have Win2000 on the other partition and that one detects the drive, no problem).
So, my question is this, should I ditch Debian and go for a distro that will see my port and allow me to burn CDs or is there and EASY way to tell my Sarge that I got this device?
