    2 network cards or one?


    i hv a general question...to simulate a NAT kind of a network on a linux box, do I need 2 physical ethernet cards or can I just configure 2 virtual ip's on one card and redirect traffic on them depending upon the routes?
    Fixing Unix is better than working with Windows.

    That's certainly possible. While it is possible to do it with one NIC, it's certainly not recommendable, since it makes a lot of things a bit complicated, and is also a bottleneck.

    As for actually configuring it, check the docs on netfilter.org, or one of the countless HOWTOs on the subject on tldp.org.
