    backup a folder to a another machine


    Hi,

    I am wondering the best way to make a achive of a folder probably using tar and moving the arhive to a different machine, anyone know how i should do this?

    yeah tar is a good utility,tar the entire folder and copy to another machine using
    scp.
    tar -cvf foldername

    i need to move the file to a different machine but now sure how it has to be on some type of schedule

    You can use cron utility to schedule an event.But to copy data to a different machine you would be authenticated.(so using scp might not work,as your event
    is to be automated)
    What I would do is that I would automount a folder from the second machine(yeah,I am talking about NFS and amd)

    and run a cron entry periodically to copy the data locally.
    Might not be an elegant idea,but would work
