    most Linux distributions have a hardware compatibility list on the web. here, for example is mandrake's :-
    http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/hardware.php3
    Redhat at has it's own as do most of the others. Try doing a google search on Linux and Hardware and you'll get plenty of hits.

    ps. if you just want to have a quick look at Linux before making any decision, why not try a CD based distro like SUSE or Knowpix. These boot straight from the CD and do not need installing.

    Use Suse 10.1 and occasionally play with Kubuntu
    Also have Windows 98SE and BeOS
