    IRC CONNECTION PROBLEM

    hi..
i m using a redhat 9.0.i m within a network consisting of about 200 workstations connected to a linux and an NT box.i have problem in connecting to the IRC using the XIRC client. When i try to connect to an IRC Server it says "connecting to irc.dal.net" 6667 and after some time displays "connection timeout".
Is the problem due to some firewall or proxy stuff within the network or is the admin blocking the connections on the port..is there any irc server that i can connect on a port rather than 6667.
please guide me.. i m new to linux..i
    Freak..
