Need help ASAP
Hey everybody.I'm not exactly new, but I have a newbie problem.
Ok here's the deal,
Linux, any distrobution works perfectly (video, as in, i can see the screen) on a 2.6.x or 2.4.x kernel.
However, any distrobution on an SMP 2.6 Kernel refuses to show video. even in the terminal, it doesn't work, so its not an X problem. As soon as the boot loader starts, and i hit enter, I can't see anythign. This has happened for ubuntu, debian, knoppix, and slackware. Any clue?
Thanks in advance,
pacifico

What kind of hardware do you have? Processor/video card/RAM?

hey
uhm..latest 11.0. and its 2.6 kernel. it works fine, however wen i install the 2.6 SMP kernel package it stops working soon as it starts booting.
- 10-24-2006 #8I wasn't aware you needed a specific package to get the 2.6 kernel working with SMP. I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that it came standard now and was only enabled if it detected more than one processor or core.

Usually when Linux (or any OS) freezes it means there's a problem with some hardware component. Can you tell at what point in the boot process it's freezing? For instance, in Knoppix, what is the last "load" line for?
