Linux HDD File server in windows network

Hi I'm new to this forum because i'm searching for someone who can help my set up a connection between a Linux HDD file server and two windows machines using a router.
I have drawed my future network to show jouw what i mean.
I'm dutch and in the first place it was drawed to show a friend of mine but he's a newbie too.
So I'm going to translate it as much as possible.

Left is the pc room it contains a router and a windows machine.
Right is my room it contains the Linux HDD File server and my pesonal windows machine.
All the pc's in this network including the router have a 1 Gbit/s Ethernet Connection point.
Every machine is connected to each other using the through the router
But the Linux HDD File server is also connected to my computer for personal reasons.
My question is how can i connect the Linux HDD File server with the rest of the network so i can browse files from my Linux machine using any windows machine on the network.

Trying looking into samba; it will probably do what you have in mind.

Strangly enough the website doesn't show the drawing on my pc.
But i wanted to say that i'm a total newb at this.
Could anyone give me advise on what linux is best for this.
And can i make the linux that perfectly that I only need to push the power button and linux does al the startup process and logging precedures itself?
Or do i need a screen and a keyboard to do it myself everytime?
Things that would make me happy:

    - Name of the linux version that is best suitable for this job.
    - Program names.
    - Network set-up details for both linux and windows(aaarggghhh).
    - Additional setting information of the programs.

    P.S.
I will take a look a this Samba program and what about the servers hardware is it good enough for the job (It's not for internet use but just for filesharing in our growing home network.
