when i start up my system
it gets to
system logging [FAILED]
it takes forever to get the failed messege
what can i do to fix this, or what other ...

Red Hat Linux 8 sys logging prob
when i start up my system
it gets to
system logging [FAILED]
it takes forever to get the failed messege
what can i do to fix this, or what other info would be needed.

Try (as root) to start "syslogd" in a shell, and see if it says anything.
What distribution are you running?

it says :
syslogd: Already running.
its weird though, because on start up it said it failed to start?

i just rebooted to see
Starting system logger: [FAILED]
it sits 2-3 minutes before i get the FAILED, the kernel logger is next it goves an ok, if that means anything
not sure whats up with it?
any ideas?

syslogd only checks the pid file to make sure it doesn't start a new copy. Make sure that it's really running with ps.

dont know to much about my sys logger never had any problems with it before.

That's the one, so at least it is running. Why it reports differently is currently beyond me. What happens if you run "service syslog restart"?

it semms to be a syslogger i added in causing the problem soon as i removed it dont know why but it works now.
