It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Smile Installing from source

    Hi,

Before you start to compile from source code you need certain packages installed first.

I would recommend entering yast under software management and installing all the packages needed for develpment.

I don't use SuSE now but if memory serves, in the top left of software management window is a drop down box - select package groups, or somthing like that. and tick development.

Now you can compile from source.

I have to say though that installing from source is way, way much more problematic than using yast as yast will view the depencies require for the package you select. Installing from source you need to do this your self.

    Have Fun

Many serious SuSE users like to use SMART for installing software. Try this link for instructions on how to install it. Yast's software management is flaky at best.

Spyware is not as much of a threat on Linux machines as it is for Windows but if you're looking to implement some basic security measures, check out this thread.
