    Past Command

    Downloaded Sarge & Woody Installed sarge and installed all including xwindows... Login in command Neither one will get past command ... Etch will but Im having trouble with it..... I dpwnloaded the latest kernel and wll try to figure out how to install in command mode... What is the problem? I would like to install sarge since I have all he cd's for it....

    Could you clarify your question a little more? You can't log in to your machine? Or you can get to the command line but can't log in graphically? It's hard to tell from your post what exactly is wrong.

    Debian doesn't include a graphical environment by default. Try apt-get install x-window-system and install some desktops while you're at it.

    With sarge I installed all the packages including xwindows.. X windows will not start startx is unknown command.. I am currently logged in woody apt-get install x-window-system I get dependency and broken packages Aptitude is unknown command.. What is alternate..
