shutting down and graphical login screen

I have Fedora Core 6 and I've been doing some research on how to shutdown, most documents I find say there is a button under system to shut it down but I don't have one. Is there anyway I can install that, maybe from yum package manager? My other question is, how do I get to the graphical login screen and get it to work? Do I have to install that to and if so how do I? I also have a problem with Fedora freeze everytime I update or try to run more than one thing, does anyone know how to fix that problem?

    Thanks

log in as root and open /etc/inittab file.
    change line
    Code:
    id:3:initdefault:
    to
    Code:
    id:5:initdefault:
its first uncommented ( without '#' sign ) line in inittab file.
    Save file and reboot.
you will get both. Graphical Login Screen and Shutdown button.
