cant install any version of linux, please help

    Hi all,
I am having this peculiar problem that I am not being able to install any version of linux on my system. My system configuration is Intel 946GZ motherboard,Intel dual core 2.8Gz processor, SATA 160GB hardisk and 512MB DDR2 RAM.
I dont know why I cant install. I tried first with Red Hat 7.0 and it could not read the hard disk. Then I tried Ubuntu 5.10 and the process got struck up after it read this on the screen
AcPI : Looking for DSDT in initrd... not found!
    not found!
    ACPI : setting ELCR to 0200(from 0e00)
BIOS bug, local APIC #0 not detected!...
NET : Registered protocol family 15
    EISA bus registered
APCI : bus type pci registered
    PCI :using MMCONFIG
    mtrr : V2.0 (20020519)
    APCI : subsystem revision 20050729
    APCI : Intepreter enabled
APCI : using PIC for interrupt routing
    APCI : PCI root bridge [PCI0] (0000:00)
PCI : probing PCI hardware (bus 00)
APCI : Assume root bridge [\_SB_.PCI0] segment is 0
APCI : Assume root bridge [\_SB_.PCI0] bus is 0

and now while tried to install Fedora Core 6 it said cant create Kernel image and the cd did not boot at all. I feel like banging my head.
I have to complete my assignments in C & unix by Monday and here I am struck up in trying to install linux. All the gurus out here, I plead you to solve my problem and avoid my embarrassment in my class.
Hope some body finds a solution to my problem.
    Thanks & regards,
    Kamesh.

TRy booting Ubuntu with the "noacpi" option. BTW Red Hat 7 is pretty old, don't use it
