Anti virus basics
Hey everybody!
Can somebody explain to me why I have to make a new user group and user
to run security software? I just expected it to be installed like windows but i've obviously found it more complicated than I expected and I simply don't understand!
help!

Sometimes certain daemon based applications need to run constantly, but don't need to run as root so require a new user. What antivirus are you installing, and moreover is there a need to run it? (i.e. is it a fileserver for Windows boxes?)

keep it simple
err...........well it's just for a home PC. Nothing fancy.
I tried installing clamav from source but i get a problem extracting the files, something about an unexpected EOF. So i decided to try the antivirus that comes with suse 10.0........amavis i think it's called. This obviously installs fine
but upon browsing through the documentation i've found the create new user and group thing, just as i did when iwent to install clamav, and it bamboozled me a bit, seemed a bit complicated.
Another thing.....
is there a GUI with linux antivirus or is it all done with a console?" I didn't know it was a picture of his wife! I thought it was a publicity shot form Planet Of the Apes."
