    few Q's

    Hi all

Just have a couple of questions. I'm trying to get my head around a new POS system we are working with which runs linux. The systems starts up into a GUI that shows the time at the bottom and a background like normal but thats it, no other buttons or menus. Is it possible that the developer is running a normal GUI and just somehow dissabled all the "features" or could it just be an applications interface?

From this "interface" I can press ctrl+alt+F2 to get into a console, but how do I get back?

Sorry if my questions seem weird, at this stage what I know about linux is literally scary

It sounds to me like you are booted to a simple windows manager. Is a mouse hooked to this machine? What happens when you right click on the mouse, does a menu come up?

I can't remember the exact options but it is very similar to windose in that it has properties, cut, paste and such options.

Is there a way to figure out which linux package and add-ons is loaded on the machine?

Yes, but I need to know exactly what is in that menu. We need a terminal. Do you see xterm or konsole or anything of the sort?

Nope no konsole, the only way I can get into a console is by using ctrl+alt+F2. Sorry I can't be more specific, the system has already been installed, will have to make a trip out there sometime this week.

Does this mean anything "Kernel 2.4.33.3-s2 (based on the work on SuSE AG)" ?

Yes. It is as I suspected, some form of SuSE POS software. If there are no icons, I imagine there is a key combo which brings up the interface, but I'm really groping in the dark here as much as you. Can you tell me what the menu items are when you right click?
