Linux on Compaq Armada 1750 (old laptop)

Hey, I've installed Puppy on this machine but it just doesn't suffice. I need something that will be easy for my dad because he wants to totally remove windows from his laptop (he has already done so on his desktop computer - he got suse 9.3 on there.)

Anyhow, mainly he'd like to run one windows application and I think a Gnome or KDE desktop will be best for him since he is used to it (partially).

    Specs:
    192MB ram
    6GB HDD
    Pentium II 350Mhz processor.

As you can see this is not the fastest PC on earth but it runs puppy flawless. Preferrably something that has a package manager as well. I have not tried DSL but since it's smaller than my version of puppy (which is 83MB) I think it might even be more difficult since he only has a USB wireless connector on the laptop etc...

    Any help is appreciated!

With 192Mb of RAM you will have difficulty getting Gnome or KDE. They both need a minimum of about 256Mb.If they run at all they will be very s-l-o-w.

Zenwalk is probably the best for you to use. It was formerly known as Minislack and is based on Slaclware. That and Xubuntu are both Xface, rather than Gnome or KDE

Hmm yeah I was thinking of XFCE. However could I not (if I had an internet connection on the laptop) install the Debian netinstaller and then install XFCE from there and have OO.o, mail program, browser, video/music player and run wine on it...That's basicly all it will need. Will the laptop be able to run Debian though ?
