    No Menu for OpenOffice 2.1.0!

    This is driving me crazy!
Why Why WHY doesn't the RPM for Mandriva work for "menu itegration for Mandriva" .. Help me out here please.

The program was installed though and it's in the /opt/OpenOffice... directory and that's all I can figure. I just started with Linux about a week or so ago. So Laimen's terms please.

I have OpenOffice 2.0.3 that came with Mandriva.. But No menu for 2.1.0

I using the Mandriva 2007 (that came in Linux Pro Magizine)

I don't have Mandriva, so I can't tell for sure. My guess is you can probably start it by running the executable:
    Code:
    /opt/OpenOffice.../programs/soffice
Check what the correct path is to soffice.

The reason why you don't have any menu entries is because you did not install all the OOo packages for Mandriva. In the RPMS subdirectory of the OOo package, there is a subdirectoy called desktop-integration. Install the openoffice.org-mandriva-menus-2.1-5.noarch.rpm and you will have an entry in the Mandriva menu.

Well.. I tried the desktop-integration RPM that was located in that folder for Mandriva. And no result. Unless it's hidden somewhere on the menu and not on the main pop-up list, which it should be.
I deleted RPMs that didn't apply to KDE or Mandriva which were few. And did
    Code:
    rpm -Uhiv [filename].rpm
and it said everything was installed and good to go.

Should I link this to a Mandriva thread?

I have went into the .../programs folder and launched it manually, but that's not what I want. I am used to windows... (.exe = executable) what are the executables in Linux? Are they always .bin or something? I know that extentions aren't necessary but they are becoming a conventional thing (right?)

Boy, I am getting sick of Mandriva.. I am thinking of switching to OpenSUSE..
By the way, this is for my old 800 MHz Laptop.

Well, I have Mandriva 2007 running on one of my machines and the menu entry for OpenOffice (using the OOo packages and not the ones from Mandriva) works fine for me. What is the output of doing
    Code:
    #rpm -qa | grep -i openoffice
As for Linux executables, most do not have any extension and I don't think thats gling to change anytime soon. They are not located in a single directory and their location is governed by the filesystem hierarchy standard.

Well you definitely have the right package installed so I don't know why you are not seeing the menu entries. Try logging in as a different user and see if you have similar problems. Another thing you chould try is to run the command "update-menus -v". If everything fails, try running menudrake and creating the entries manually.

Ok, well I did everything mentioned here and everything I could find to do and still the same..

I went ahead and linked a shortcut to soffice and put it in the Office >> menu with a funky old blue puzzle peice.

    Thanks for all yours' helps.
