    ok i want to try a few different linux distros without having to burn each one to a dvd so is it possible to install linux from usb device e.g. usb memory stick or mp3 player?

    u should be able to do it.
    im not sure about the other ones, but u can install FC6 from usb boot media.
    they should mention it in the installation documentation
