    Unhappy Recover data from "bad" DVD - is it possible ???

    Hello,

    Is it possible to recover data from the "bad" DVD (created with k3b, iso9660) ???

    Attempts to mount/open the DVD give (after a long time)

    i/o error:
    hdc: media error (bad sector): status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
    [attempted tools: "mount /dev/hdc", "cat /dev/hdc >temp.iso", "dd if=/dev/hdc of=Temp.iso"]

    The problem is with one particular disk.
    The DVD is new ( no visible scratches/fingerprints etc. )
    created on Dec. 31, 2006 as one of the backup disks (all the other disks read normally)

    I also tried WinXP, but no result !!!
    Windows tools (BadCopy Pro) could not read the data

    Any ideas ?????
    Thanks in advance !!!

    Are you trying to read it from the same DVD drive it was created with? If you are, I can only suggest that you try to read it from other DVD drives to see if you can get the data off it that way. If you find a reader that works, maybe you could create an .iso image of it and pass that across to the machine that needs it (you can mount iso images as a filesystem).

    i've been successful a couple of times by making a copy of the disc on a different machine and then extracting data from the copy.

    Unfortunately NO.
    I tried with 3 different drives on three different machines, under Linux and under Windows-nothing helps
