GRUB and Mplayer and User Accounts :D
Hi,
I'm running Ubuntu x64 edition and have some problems! Here they are:
1. Every time I try booting into Ubuntu it gives me the error message saying to boot with the "noapic" parameter. How can I edit GRUB to permanantly enter this? What does noapic mean?
2. When I try to play an MP3 in MPlayer the first second of sound keeps looping itself and continues even if i close MPlayer. Any ideas?
3. If there are two or more user accounts on a single machine, is there a way to change the appearance settings of all of them together? Like, if I want all the accounts to display weather information on the top bar.
Thanks
DJ
- 01-09-2007 #2HiHi,

edit the file /boot/grub/grub.conf. On the line that starts with Kernel in the section that defines the kernel that you boot from ( look at the title that looks familiar ). At the end of the line that starts with kernel just add "noapic" (no quotes). Then reboot.I'm running Ubuntu x64 edition and have some problems! Here they are:

You are probably being bitten by the fact that you are running x64. i can only STRONGLY suggest that you go back to 32 bit unless you are really savvy and know what you are doing. 64bit desktop linux is far from baked yet and needs a lot more hammering before its ready for general consumption.
