I installed vmware 5.5 and installed red hat 9.0 but had problems starting X. I tried again over the weekend to install another version of redhat. I installed version 8.0 but go the same problem.

The documentation from installing the OS in Vmware says that the vmware tools should be installed before running X. the link below gave a step by step on how to install the vmware tools.
http://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/d...html#wp1118185

I followed the “Installing VMware Tools from the Command Line with the RPM Installer” and when I issued the command “vmware-config-tools.pl” at the shell prompt, it gave me some text that scrolled. I was looking for how I could get the text that scrolls through. I saw a feature in vmware that creates a movie capture of the screen. I scrolled through and saw the following
“the configuration file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config is a broken symlink. X configuration skipped”

This is probably why I am having problems I guess.

What do you think?, and how can I solve this.

when i issues the command startx or xinit, i get the following as part
of a message

(==) Log file: "/var/log/XFree86.0.log", Time: Tue Jan 2 16:58:05 2007
