Why did the GRUB get messed up?

hey, i have a question.... i have windows on partion 1, and linux on the partions 2,3,4. well, i deleted partions 2,3,4 and after that the grub wouldn't boot up properly. why would this happen if grub is in the master boot record? isn't the master boot record in partion 1?

GRUB is in the MBR, which comes before the partitions. The config file and other files used by grub have now been deleted as they were on one of your linux partitions. To fix this, use your windows disc and boot into a recovery console (booting from the disc). At the command prompt, type fixmbr. This will reinstall the Windows bootloader.
