XP/redhat9 dual boot
Ok I want to install linux on another patition on my hard drive. I have a 120 GB drive with windows xp on the first 82GB NTFS and a 33GB fat32 partition on the second part of the drive. I have a pent4 3.4GHZ 2GB RAM. My video isn't supported in the install so I can do that in the linux text mode. This is what I was trying to do with disk druid.
/boot 16MB
/ 2GB
/swap 2000MB
/home 8GB
I have never played with linux and, I can't wait to. I really don't know what I need to do to get this to work or if it will. Any help would be great. I can't wait to play with linux.

This is what I have so far...
I deleted my fat32 partition and did an workstation install then I choose "Keep all partitions and use existing free space"
Device Start End Size Type Mount Point
/dev/hdb1 1 10944 85847M ntfs
/dev/hdb2 10945 10957 101M ext3 /boot
/dev/hdb3 10958 14339 26529M ext3 /
/dev/hdb4 14340 14593 1992M extended
/dev/hdb5 14340 14593 1992M swap
While installing it stopped and said it received an abnormalsignal 11 and quit the install? I don't know what i'm doing wrong?

Hi PCTech-1, and welcome to the forum!

I used RH9 for a long time and loved every minute of it. However, it is by todays Linux standards very long in the tooth. I highly recommend you take a look at a newer distro like CentOS which is RedHat based, or Fedora. Linux distros have come a long way since RedHat 9, and I believe a newer distro will greatly enhance your Linux experience.

You might try looking here for some of the major distributions available to choose from http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major
Also those partitions look fine to me

You know I was looking forward to this linux experience. But this whole process has left me somewhat discouraged in the process. It's gotta be easier than this.
- 01-12-2007 #9It's not hard it's just different and you aren't used to it. If you invest the same amount of time learning Linux as you invested learning Windows you'll be navigating Linux in no time. If you're not willing to invest that time then maybe it would be a good idea to stick with Windows. If I can learn Linux, anyone can. Please read the linked article in my signature. It will answer a lot of questions for you.
