how do i set /home using partition magic?
hi,
i want to dual boot xp and suse 10.2.
i know that i need at least 3 partitions for linux: swap, root, and home.
I downloaded partition magic, and was wondering if i am doing the right thing.
i clicked onto the add new operating system, followed it though, it added linux as primary.
Then after this it gave me the option to add the swap partition, which i did, so that too was added as primary after linux, as linux swap.
Now this is where i am really not sure(even more than the above:P), how am i meant to add the home?
Is it just meant to be added as extended?
What about the FAT32 which i was told to add as well? confused.
Could someone let me know what to do. Step by step would be great
Thanks in advance.

i wont recommend Partition Magic. it hides Windows partition and installs its own boot loader 'boot magic' in dual boot setup. boot magic creates a lot of problems later on.
SuSe' installer creates / (root), /home and SWAP partitions by default. leave unpartitioned/free space and start SuSe installation. select 'unpartitioned/free space' in Partition Section. installer will create/format partitions and setup dual boot for you.
if you want to create partitions manually then download GParted LiveCD and create partitions through it,

hi casper,
when i try and install, it says i havent got enough memory to load the yast, and it wants me to set up a swap, giving me an example of /dev/dsa2
when i type that, it gives me an error message.
What do i do ?

how much RAM do you have? are you creating partitions manually?

btw its an intel pentium2, with 128 mb of ram.

installer should create partitions itself unless you have less RAM. how much RAM do you have??? did you create unpartitioned space?
Edit: you need atleast 256MB RAM. 128MB is too low. check system requirements here.

ok..i see....well it worked with suse 10.1, il try that, i tried it before and it worked, not as dual boot though...will i have the same problem as a dual boot?

yes ! but SuSe10.1 will be very slow in your machine. either add more RAM OR check here. there are a lot of distros out there that perform very well with 128MB RAM.
